Arrived in Fiji

The adventures have certainly begun. If we knew then, what we know now... we'd probably be on a different island.

Justin nearly refused to get on the ancient, rickety, teeny plane that carried us to Taveuni. I thought it was a great adventure, and Elle was totally non-plussed. That said, the plane probably would not be flying in the US. Stay tuned for a pic of the airport on Taveuni.... OMG. We weren't issued tickets, and there is NO security on the outbound return. Think chicken wire, tin and a few pieces of wood for good measure.

We've been on a hunt for food, all day. We can't find anything edible. The "large" supermarket is almost entirely devoid of food. The few veggies they had there were sprouting all kinds of mold. They had no BREAD! We have a jar of peanut butter, and a can of tuna... and that's really about it. We stopped at two of the "nice" restaurants, both were closed. We went to two local hole in the walls, and we all outright rejected the food on display.

That said, the island is lovely. Gorgeous even. The house leaves a little to be desired, there is an horrid sauerkraut smell emanating from the fridge, and an awful lot of bugs (in the fridge and out). The scenery though, is specatular. We spent some time in clear, bathtub temp water and just being in awe of the beauty. Justin caught a snapper on his 4th cast, right in front of our house. Tired now though, and hungry. I still can't figure out why he threw the snapper back!

Elle and Liam were awesome travelers, they both slept nearly the entire 10 hours from LAX to Nadi, Fiji. Mom and dad did not. Traveling with a 5 year old, 5 month old, 6 checked bags and 5 carry-ons is exhausting.
