Christchurch

Our last day in New Zealand was a good one. We spent the day exploring Christchurch and found it to be a beautiful city. In our opinion, perhaps the prettiest and most liveable city we've seen here in NZ. It's called "The Garden City" and NZ's most English city, and they both ring true. Parks are everywhere in Christchurch and the Botanic Gardens are right in the city center.

We started the day by punting on the Avon River, which took us right through the Botanic Gardens. It was a beautiful and relaxing tour. And of course, not at all touristy.

Next, we walked to the Arts Centre to view local artists studios and their artwork, and to have lunch at an outdoor cafe. We then boarded a tram for a quick overview of the city center. We got to see the Catholic church, of which Elle declared it to be the most beautiful she's ever seen. I guess compared to St. Mark's it was really something! We walked a few quaint shopping streets and observed a giant chess match.

Finally, it was time to return our unfailing station wagon and pack up our 11 suitcases to prepare for our 5AM flight to Cairns, Australia. Now that should be fun.

We have fallen in love with New Zealand, everything about it is just right. But alas, it's time to move on.
