Sydney Harbor Bridge/IMAX/Bondi

Yesterday we made our way half way across the bridge to get some spectacular views of Sydney, the waterways and the Opera House. Only half way, but with 2 kids in tow it felt like we crossed back and forth several times. Walking across the bridge is free, but you can also climb it if you are child-free and willing to shell out $250 per person.

We then made our way to Darling Harbor (not much to see there, a friend aptly compared it to Navy Pier), but we were heading to see Alice in Wonderland, 3D, at the IMAX theater. It boasts the largest movie screen in the world and it sure felt that way. We got very, very lucky and Liam slept through the entire movie.

We've had a bit of trouble getting around Sydney. Bondi is actually quite removed from Sydney proper and the buses do not offer direct service. Making it even more difficult, when taxi's see Liam they wave no-no and keep driving. Apparently, unlike Chicago and New York, you can't simply hop in the back seat and pretend that car seat laws don't exist. They exist and are enforced strongly here. A taxi driver can lose his license for driving us without one. A few taxi's carry car seats , but they are few and far between. Occasionally we get lucky and a taxi will pick us up, and you can tell they are pretending not to notice that we have a baby. Even then, it's a $30 plus ride into Sydney, each way.

So today, we are sticking close to Bondi to relax on the beach. And lucky us, there is an international surf contest here today. The first one in 30 years. We get to watch the likes of Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow and Owen Wright tear up the waves. It's very cool!

  1. Beautiful picture.
It's awesome looking, would love to see that country.
Sounds like you are loving it.
    The surfing contest sounds cool.
Bet J and E are loving that.
They probably both will try that, unless Mom beats them to it first.
    xoxoxo to all

  2. It is so neat to know exactly were you are at and understand the beauty you are seeing. My sister would pack tomarrow to move to Australia. When we went we did not get to venture far except were the cruise boat took us and we loved every minute and took every tour we could. And got the best tan we ever had...Enjoy..
