Tosca

Seeing an opera at the Sydney Opera House was not really on my radar, that is until I saw the opera house. And then, I decided immediately we MUST see an opera in that opera house. I've never seen an opera, I've always wanted to and the building is so iconic and gorgeous that it seemed a tragedy to not attempt it.

First up, find a babysitter that we trust. A friend of a friend is Australian and his mother just so happens to be a nanny in Sydney! (Thanks to Molly for the hookup) I called up Catherine and she just happened to have a cancellation for Saturday night. Things were falling into place. Tickets were available for Tosca (I frankly didn't care which opera we were seeing) and were promptly booked.

Taking a taxi through the beautiful city to the opera house felt magical. The views of the city, lights, bridge, and the opera structure itself is just gorgeous. The production of Tosca was amazing, luckily subtitles were provided and we were able to follow the story line. This particula opera was first performed in 1900, it must've been positively shocking at that time. And the story line remains sufficiently provacative today. We both enjoyed the opera much more than we even thought we would. As we left, Justin said it sounded like everyone around us was singing as they spoke. And I felt certain that Justin would be singing out trivial bits of conversation for weeks to come.

The only thing that dampened our night at all, besides the rain, was worrying about poor Liam. And poor Catherine. He cried and cried and cried, poor guy. But, he woke quite happy and seems no worse for the wear. Hopefully the same is true for Catherine. We were quite grateful to her that we got to get out and have such a wonderful evening.

  1. It sounds like a magical night! So happy to hear you and Justin were able to get out for a night. I am sure Liam is getting used to always having mom & dad around and the change wasn't expected. Good luck on your travels to Hong Kong! xo
