Hong Kong!

We have arrived in Hong Kong, and blogger does indeed work here, although most of my commands are now in Chinese. I am watching it turn light and the city buildings are coming into view. We are in Kowloon on the mainland and have an excellent view of Hong Kong island. The skyline is very impressive.

We landed last night in the fog/smog and it still looks the same this morning. Just a heavy, thick grey veil sitting on the city. Despite that, our first impressions of Hong Kong are good.

The flight on Cathay Pacific was excellent. The Chinese attendants were extremely accomodating and kind. At the airport in Australia they assigned us 6 seats so that we could spread out with the kids, on the plane they brought us 6 jars of baby food, juices, diapers/wipes and Mustela baby products! They all oohed and aahed over Liam, prepping us for what would happen when we landed in China.

They love babies here, maybe even more than Fiji. I felt like I was carrying a celebrity baby through the airport. You would have thought they hadn't seen a baby in years. Everyone talking and cooing and asking about her. (Yes, Liam is always called a girl... in every country it has been assumed he was a girl. Strangely, Elle was always called a boy )

I was dreading getting through the Chinese aiports with all our bags and two kids, but Hong Kong at least, was surprising smooth and easy. Very clean, very organized, very streamlined. We hopped in a taxi and drove to Kowloon, first across the worlds longest suspension bridge. Absolutely incredible! http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/attractions/nt-tsingma-bridge.html And then past an enormous container port, the largest we've ever seen.

The moutains, the water, the city lights all make for a very interesting landscape. We can't wait to get out and see more today. Hopefully the fog/smog will disperse a bit.
